Kid’s Corner was a patient education company from the 1980s that specialized in creating educational materials tailored for children undergoing medical procedures or treatment. These materials, which included books, videos, and other media, were designed to help young patients better understand their medical conditions, the procedures they might face, and how to manage their health in a way that was accessible and less frightening. The company aimed to alleviate anxiety, empower children with knowledge, and support families in a medical setting. Kid’s Corner often worked closely with hospitals and pediatric care providers to create customized, age-appropriate content. The founding members of Kids’ Corner were Donna Guthrie, Nancy Ekberg, Valerie Morrison, and Linda Railey. The company also produced public service announcements for the National Poison Control. The most famous is the WE “RE NOT CANDY, sung by four singing pills. The “singing pills” sampled by Busta Rhymes in his 1997 song “Dangerous” come from a 1980s public service announcement (PSA) called We’re Not Candy! Created for the Long Island Regional Poison Control Center by Kid’s Corner. The PSA featured animated, high-pitched blue puppet pills singing a catchy yet serious song to warn children about the dangers of mistaking medicine for Candy. The PSA was designed to educate kids about poison prevention and became widely known for its memorable lyrics. Busta Rhymes incorporated part of the song’s lyrics, such as “This is serious, we could make you delirious,” into “Dangerous.” The PSA has since resurfaced online, becoming a viral piece of internet nostalgia.
